Kia NIro EV

The Kia Niro EV ranks highest in the Mass Market BEV (battery electric vehicles) category of the inaugural J.D. Power U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Ownership Study with a score of 782.

The overall EVX ownership index score measures electric vehicle owners’ satisfaction on a 1,000-point scale across seven factors:

  • Accuracy of stated battery range
  • Availability of public charging stations
  • Battery range
  • Cost of ownership
  • Driving enjoyment
  • Ease of charging at home
  • Vehicle quality and reliability

The Niro EV has quite a lead on the second and third-ranked models, with the Chevrolet Bolt scoring 745 and the Hyundai Kona EV scoring 743. What’s more, the overall satisfaction in the mass market BEV segment has a score of 730.

According to J.D. Power, the U.S. EVX Ownership Study is driven by a collaboration with PlugShare, which is the leading EV driver app maker and research firm. The study sets the standard for benchmarking satisfaction with the critical attributes that affect the total or overall EV ownership experience for both BEV and PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric) vehicles.

More on the Kia Niro EV

The proof is in the pudding when it comes to the top-ranking Niro EV, boasting an EPA-estimated MPG of up to 52/49/50 (city/highway/combined). The hybrid crossover features plenty of cargo space — 54.5 cubic feet — as well as an available suite of Kia Drive Wise Driver Assist Technologies.

Beyond the specifications lies the overall enjoyment and driving experience. While it may be hard to quantify enjoyment, the mass market BEV segment has a 758 score in the driving enjoyment category, meaning Portland and Beaverton area shoppers can count on the Niro EV to be their daily driver as well as their sanctuary.
